2022 Ram 1500 vs 2022 Ford F-150: Fierce competition

The Ram 1500 and the Ford F-150 are the two best-selling vehicles in North America, year after year. While these two trucks can deliver on performance, there are significant differences in capability while on the road one has the advantage over the other in terms of comfort.
It would be a lie to tell you that the 2022 Ram 1500 is considerably superior to the 2022 Ford F-150. What we can tell you, however, is that depending on your needs, the Ram has strengths that the Ford does not, even in its new version.
Towing capacities and performance
The 2022 Ram 1500 is offered with a choice of four engines:
- EcoDiesel V6 - 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque
- 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 - 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque
- 5.7-liter HEMI V8 - 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque
- 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with eTorque - 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque
These engines deliver impressive towing capabilities. You can tow up to 12,560 lbs with the EcoDiesel, 7,730 lbs with the Pentastar V6, 11,610 lbs with the HEMI V8 and 12,750 lbs when the HEMI features eTorque technology.
The revolutionary eTorque system
The latter, unique in the industry, is in fact a component that replaces the traditional alternator to charge the 12-volt battery found in all vehicles. That said, the eTorque has 48 volts of power which also allows it to improve cranking performance to make it more efficient and reduce fuel consumption. In addition, the energy produced by the eTorque system can be reused to further power the HEMI engine with an additional 130 lb-ft of torque, which is why the V8 with eTorque technology can tow more.
This is where we see the first advantage of the 2022 Ram 1500 over the 2022 Ford F-150. The Ford offers a hybrid engine, but it is expensive. The HEMI V8-powered Ram 1500 with eTorque is very efficient, but much more accessible and much easier to use. You benefit from reduced fuel consumption while obtaining the capabilities of a proven and well-known engine.
Overall, the 2022 Ram 1500 is more economical than the new 2022 Ford F-150 when comparing the V6 and V8 engines as well as the EcoDiesel. The latter offers more torque than the diesel in the Ford F-150 which by the way is no longer offered. So, if you want a diesel engine in your truck, you won’t find it in the 2022 Ford F-150.
Comfort on the road
The 2022 Ram 1500 has the advantage over the 2022 Ford F-150 when it comes to comfort as many reviews and experts have attested to in recent years. Additionally, the Ram 1500 was named Truck of the Year by the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada last year, in part for its comfort and technologies that enhance the on-board experience.
