10 things to know about the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

One of Canada's most popular sport utility vehicles was completely redesigned and unveiled last month. The all-new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee features notable upgrades across the board, a new plug-in hybrid engine, exceptional capabilities and a much more luxurious interior. Here are 10 things to know about the new 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
A completely redesigned style
The body of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is completely redesigned. Inspired by the Jeep Grand Cherokee L presented earlier this year, the new Grand Cherokee offers more rounded and fluid lines, but its silhouette remains rugged and sporty. Available with 21 inch wheels and in several versions, the Grand Cherokee 2022 offers a design that is both elegant and muscular.
Proven engines
We do not change a winning recipe and in terms of engines, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers a choice of powertrains that Jeep enthusiasts know well. The 3.6-liter V6 developing 293 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque is standard while the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI is optional with 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. There's also a new 4xe plug-in hybrid version, but we'll come back to that.
Great towing capacity
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will continue to offer one of the best towing capabilities in its segment and outperform its competition. The V6 engine can tow up to 6,200 lbs while the V8 offers 7,200 lbs of towing capacity.
Off-road capabilities are preserved
One of the most distinctive elements of the Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been its off-road capability. That’s preserved in the new 2022 model which will offer three different 4x4 systems: Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II. It will offer a more rugged Trailhawk version with advanced off-road driving technologies including:
- Rear limited slip differential
- Selec-Speed Control system
- Selec-Terrain driving mode system
- An exclusive front sway bar disconnect system
- All-terrain tires
- Protective plates under the body
- And more!
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk offers 10.1 inches of ground clearance, 24 inches of water clearance and a 47.2: 1 gear ratio.
A new plug-in hybrid version
The other big news for the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the plug-in hybrid engine now available in the 4xe version. This engine combines a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with an electric drive for a total output of 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. This version will therefore be the most powerful in the Grand Cherokee range, but with a fuel consumption rating of only 4.1 liters per 100 kilometers. And yes, the Trailhawk model will be offered in a 4xe version!
Lots of range in 100% electric mode
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models will offer a range in 100% electric mode of 40 kilometers! That's enough to do the majority of our daily commute without consuming a single drop of fuel!
A more luxurious interior
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee offers an interior strongly inspired by the new Grand Cherokee L with higher-quality materials, a new dashboard with a more imposing screen and improved soundproofing. The seats can be adjusted in 16 positions and the front seat cushion can be stretched to provide better thigh support. The interior is also entitled to customizable mood lighting with five colors.
More technologies
Technology abounds in the new Grand Cherokee. In terms of safety, the new SUV will be entitled to advanced standard safety technologies including:
- Full speed collision warning with active braking and pedestrian/cyclist detection
- Rear cross traffic detection
- Adaptive cruise control with stop and start function
- Active lane management
- Lane departure warning system with lane keeping assistance
- Advanced brake assist
- Monitoring of blind spots
- ParkView reversing camera
- Park-Sense rear parking assistance sensors with automatic braking
- Electric parking brake activated by switch
- Tire pressure monitoring
Other safety features include a parallel park assist system, night vision camera, driver attention monitoring system, and intersection collision avoidance and assistance system.
The new Jeep Grand Cherokee also offers more connectivity technologies. These include the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, three screens in the front including a digital display behind the steering wheel, a center display measuring 10.25 inches and even a passenger display!
More space
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is more spacious than the previous model with more head, leg and shoulder room in each row. It also offers more cargo space.
It’s coming by the end of the year
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee arrives by the end of the year while the hybrid 4xe models will be launched in early 2022.
